Though estrogen and progesterone are business partners in the body, sometimes a woman’s body never lets the latter know it’s time to get going, leaving the former to pull all the weight. This production imbalance leads to Estrogen Dominance.
As stated by Dr. John Lee, estrogen dominance occurs when a person has deficient, normal or excessive estrogen, but very little to no progesterone to equalize the effects.
Another lesser-known culprit in estrogen dominance is the increasing presence of xenoestrogens. Found in cosmetics, plastic bottles, Styrofoam cups and birth control pills among other things, xenoestrogens act as pseudo-hormones by copying or boosting estrogen’s effects.
Estrogendominanceguide.com points out additional factors contributing to estrogen dominance including stress, diet, lack of exercise, and hormone replacement therapy.
